2023 marks Christine’s The Ned Prix de Fashion debut having secured her place at the Invercargill Gold Cup Day in February meaning Christine is Southland’s representative. We chat with Christine ahead of this year’s national fashions in the field final to learn more about her and her fashion in the field journey to date…

Firstly, congratulations on your first qualification for the The Ned Prix de Fashion national final. Can you tell us a little bit about the outfit that got you there?

It was a unique pink/navy/mustard tassel dress made by Only One Ashley. It’s not the usual style of dress I would wear, but I absolutely loved it the first time I set my eyes on it a year ago. The dress was teamed with millinery by Peacock Millinery, and it made the outfit come to life.

We can’t wait to see what you have put together for the The Ned Prix de Fashion. Can you tell us a little bit about the outfit you have planned to wear and what one word is that you would use to describe it?

Individuality. I absolutely love what Anna Dutton Couture designs and the outfit she’s created is one of a kind, just like me. Maria at ‘With Grace Millinery’ is amazing and I love to see her and Anna’s work together to create one-of-a-kind outfits. Being so short it’s hard to find something to compliment my shape but Anna does it well.

Who are your fashion icons when it comes to racewear?

Sara Allpress is the one who first got me interested in fashions in the field. A photo came up of her in The Ned Prix de Fashion national finals and it just wowed me! She has such an amazing eye for detail. I needed to know more and how to get involved in this!

Also, Dettie May, who won the coveted 2022 Myer Fashions on the Field title in Melbourne has such a creative design and flair. She is also the loveliest person to talk fashion with and every outfit boasts her individuality.

How long have you been entering Fashions in the Field competitions?

I entered my first competition in 2021. I was so nervous but excited and had a great time. And now after a couple more under my belt, I’m hooked! There aren’t many down here in Invercargill, but I enter when I can.

What’s your top tip for a day at the races?

Grab some of your besties, get all dressed up, purchase some nibbles and wine, and have the most amazing time and enjoy the atmosphere. I love any excuse to get dressed up!

Is it all about the ‘sash’? What keeps you entering Fashions in the Field competitions?

All the ladies that I meet in fashions in the field competitions are amazing. Everyone is so friendly, and you make new friends along the way. Also, the looks on my besties faces when I pull off a win is so thrilling to watch.
