ATR Achieves Toitū Envirocare Gold Certification

Auckland Thoroughbred Racing (ATR) is proud to announce that we have achieved Toitū Envirocare Gold Certification, recognising our commitment to building a more sustainable future and embedding environmental responsibility into the way we operate. 

The certification reflects the significant progress we’ve made over the past year, with sustainability becoming an increasingly important part of our day-to-day operations. From major infrastructure projects through to waste management and organisational wellbeing, our teams have worked together to create lasting environmental improvements across both the Ellerslie and Pukekohe racecourses. 

As part of the independent audit, ATR was recognised for a number of key initiatives, including: 

• Improving water efficiency through the new bathroom facilities delivered as part of the Ellerslie Recladding Project. 

• Completing a comprehensive energy audit at Ellerslie to identify future opportunities to reduce energy consumption. 

• Undertaking a site-wide waste audit to uncover new ways to divert more waste from landfill. 

• Reusing and recycling materials throughout the Pukekohe Remediation Project, reducing unnecessary waste. 

• Implementing robust waste measurement and monitoring, giving us greater visibility of our environmental performance. 

• Aligning our environmental initiatives with a clear organisational sustainability strategy and environmental policy. 

• Supporting our people through the establishment of an in-house mental health team. 

• Strengthening organisational resilience with the completion of a comprehensive crisis management process. 

One of the most pleasing outcomes from the audit was receiving zero corrective actions – a fantastic result that demonstrates the strength and maturity of ATR’s environmental management system. The audit also identified seven observations, providing valuable opportunities to continue improving and building on the great work already underway. 

This achievement belongs to every team and individual who has contributed to improving the way we work. Together, we’re building racecourses that are not only world-class destinations for racing and events, but are also better for our people, our communities, and the environment.
