With our history spanning over 160 years, we thought it high time to ask a few (not so old!) friends of Auckland Racing Club (ARC) to recall their favourite memories of racing here at Ellerslie.

Today we chat to ARC ambassador, Hannah Marinkovich, about her favourite memory.

Says Hannah…

“Choosing a favourite memory at Ellerslie is actually a hard feat as I have so many amazing memories from over the years – from my first raceday over 10 years ago to our last Barfoot & Thompson Auckland Cup Day.

“If I had to choose only one to share, it would be winning Prix de Fashion [the national racewear final] in 2017.

“I still can’t believe it!

“It was another beautiful, sunny day at Ellerslie and I was actually quite nervous before the final.

“After watching the day’s grand final, I knew I was up against some incredibly tough competition and there were exquisite outfits everywhere I looked.

“To be completely honest, as a newbie on the scene I didn’t think I stood a chance.

“What happened next all went so quickly and before I knew it I was being sashed and I was over the moon.

“It had always been a dream of mine to enter – let alone win – the national final!

“Afterwards it was especially special popping over to the Champagne Lawn to celebrate in the sun.

“The atmosphere was electric that day!”
